Dutch forward Robin van Persie is on his way out of Emirates Stadium and heading to Old Trafford. Manchester United has outbid Manchester City and Juventus to sign Van Persie away from the Arsenal. The cost of the deal was  £22 million — or roughly $34.5 million. Manchester United has released a statement on the signing:

Manchester United is pleased to announce it has reached agreement with Arsenal Football Club for the transfer of Robin van Persie. The deal is subject to a medical and the agreement of personal terms. A further announcement will be made in due course.

Of course, the Arsenal have released a statement of their own:

Van Persie will travel to Manchester on Thursday in order to agree personal terms and complete a medical ahead of the proposed move.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson originally said the club would not pay more than £15 million for Van Persie while the Arsenal wanted £25 million. The two sides found middle ground and were able to get the deal done.

He is the latest star to leave Arsenal following Thierry Henry, Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri on the way out of Emirates Stadium.

Van Persie leaves The Gunners as their eight all-time leading scorer. Last season, van Persie won the Premier League’s Golden Boot award as well as the Professional Footballers’ Association Fans’ Player of the Year, PFA’s Players’ Player of the Year and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.
