The folks at EA Sports announced today that they will add five new legends to the upcoming NHL 13 video game as playable characters. Nine legends were introduced to the game for last year’s version of the game. The legends were Wayne Gretzky, Ray Bourque, Chris Chelios, Steve Yzerman, Borje Salming, Patrick Roy, Jeremy Roenick, Mario Lemieux, and Gordie Howe.
The five legends that will join the previous nine are Doug Gilmour, Jari Kurri, Dominik Hasek and two women’s players — four-time Olympic medalists Angela Ruggiero and Hayley Wickenheiser. Ruggiero played for Team USA, while Wickenheiser played for Canada. The pair becomes the first playable women’s characters in the franchise.
Legends can be used in the game through various modes including Be a Legend, Hockey Ultimate Team and Be a GM.
NHL 13 is scheduled to be released between September 11th–13th.
