There was a lot of hype surrounding Georgia Bulldogs freshman running back Todd Gurley coming into the season and after his debut today we can all understand why the hype was there. Gurley racked up 227 total yards and three touchdowns for the Bulldogs as they steamrolled Buffalo 45-23.
Gurley’s most impressive highlight of the night came when he ripped off a 100-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the first quarter. The stadium went nuts during Gurley’s return and even Georgia head coach Mark Richt got a little excited.
That electrified the fans and it electrified me, too,” Richt said. “That was fun to watch. I was proud of him and Coach (Tony) Ball and the entire return team. You need a guy with bravery to hit it up in there full speed, the ability to break tackles and the speed to take it to the house. He looks like he will be a pretty good return man.”
Here is the return:
Georgia fans should be excited to see what is next for Gurley. If the hype surrounding him wasn’t already a lot to take in, it will only get more intense as the season goes on and the freshman continues to make big plays. In the meantime, everyone should enjoy the promising young back for what he does on the field.
