Barry Sanders Jr. ‘Likely To Redshirt’ 2012 Season

by NCAA Football

Barry Sanders Jr. has a name that stands out. After committing to the Stanford Cardinal this season, many believed that Sanders would be able to work his way into the running back rotation at Stanford. Unfortunately for Sanders, senior Stepfan Taylor has the starting job locked up and junior Anthony Wilkerson is the primary backup.

As a result, Stanford head coach David Shaw announced that Sanders is likely to redshirt the 2012 season.

As most of you know by now, Sanders Jr. is the son of former Detroit Lions running back Barry Sanders. The elder Sanders was one of the most electrifying and elusive runners in NFL history and his son has shown flashes of that same brilliance. Sanders Jr. rushed for 1,324 yards and 24 touchdowns last season at Heritage Hall High. He has run the 40-yard dash in 4.31 seconds.

When Sanders Jr. finally finds his way onto the field, you can expect him to make those jaw-dropping runs that we saw from his father. If you haven’t see Sanders Jr. ever touch the ball, you are missing out on one of the most exciting young rushers in the country. Here is a highlight tape from Sanders at Heritage Hall High:
