The debut of Robert Griffin III in the NFL was highly touted and boy did it ever live up to the expectations. Griffin completed all six of his opening drive passes which led to a Redskins field goal, but it was his 88-yard touchdown pass to Pierre Garcon that kicked off what turned out to be a harsh blow out of the New Orleans Saints in the hostile environment that is the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.

It was tens across the board in more than one way for the Redskins on Sunday. No. 10 managed to lead the Redskins to ten points in every quarter, keeping their knees on the throats of the Saints all game long.

The Saints made the game look a lot closer than it really was with 15 late points in the fourth quarter but this was the RGIII show the whole way and not even the aftermath and fall out from the Bounty-gate story could outshine the rookie in his debut.

Interesting to note: Sean Payton need not worry about his job. It was painfully evident to every Saints fans in the world that Payton is the head of the New Orleans monster. Drew Brees showed today he can only do so much. Perhaps that will change over the course of the season, but out of the gate, the Saints were missing Payton in the worst kind of way.

RGIII didn’t show off his legs as much as he did his arm on Sunday. At one point, he had receiver Pierre Garcon on pace to post over 400 yards receiving. That never went anywhere but it set the tone for the day in terms of how Griffin III would dissect the Saints defense. He’s got long NFL career ahead of him in Washington and if his debut was any indication of how it will go, Mike Shanahan might be able to piggy back on the legacy of another great NFL quarterback.
