It has been a very bad day for the Ultimate Fighting Championship. First, it was the announcement that the upcoming event UFC 153 had lost it’s co-main event between MMA legend Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and Brazilian light-heavyweight contender Glover Teixeira after Rampage was forced to withdraw from the fight with an elbow injury.

Now, UFC 153 has lost it’s main event — a featherweight title bout between champion Jose Aldo and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar. It was a superfight that every MMA fan was looking forward to seeing.

UFC president Dana White announced the news via Twitter:

UFC officials are currently looking for a new UFC 153 main event, which will be the third scheduled headliner for the show.

UFC 153 was initially slated to host a featherweight title bout between Aldo and top contender Erik Koch. Koch was forced to withdraw from his title shot and then he was replaced by Edgar who would have been making his 145-pound debut. Now, Edgar could stay in the headliner with another big name opponent.

Hopefully Dana White and company can come up with a new headliner and find a way to salvage this card. The organization can not afford to have another UFC 151 situation on their hands.

Here is how the current fight card which has been crippled by injury looks:
