The 2012 NFL Draft’s second-overall pick, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III, made his impact felt on week one of his rookie season. Griffin had a historic outing and has been rewarded by the NFL by being named the NFC Player of the Week. Griffin was instrumental in the Redskins 40-32 win over the New Orleans Saints.

RG3 is the first rookie to ever receive the award.

Griffin did not look like a rookie in his NFL debut. The former Baylor star completed 19 of 26 passes for 320 yards and two passing touchdowns.

It is a very impressive start to RG3′s regular season and he lived up to the hype early. Griffin showed everyone why the Redskins felt comfortable mortgaging their future to get what they believe will be their franchise quarterback. If Sunday night was any indication, the Redskins made the right choice.

Of course, his performance did come against an ailing, overrated Saints defensive unit but the performance was still impressive. It is early in the season so everyone has to remember to not get too excited just yet but at the surface it was a perfect NFL debut.
