Tensions are running high in perhaps the games most anticipated game between the Detroit Lions and the San Francisco 49ers. Almost a year after head coaches Jim Schwartz and Jimn Harbaugh literally fought each other on the field after the 49ers hot contested win in Detroit, the trash talk leading up to the game has already begun.
Speaking to Michele Tafoya, Harbaugh called the Lions a “chippy bunch” of players, and noted that he feels they’re a “late-hit bunch” as well.
The game already has a lot going for it, and although Harbaugh really doesn’t have to (nor should he) be saying these things, we all love it and are going to eat up every second of it.
As for the game itself, the Lions need this one not only just for revenge for last year but to prove they’re the real deal after their abysmal game last week against the Rams. Matthew Stafford will indeed have Calvin Johnson in the lineup, but the question seems to be how will the 49ers stop you?
They have a notoriously stout run defense and last week they displayed an intense secondary that stifled MVP Aaron Rodgers and made the man who can do anything with anyone look frighteningly mortal. The Lions aren’t the Packers, and the 49ers seem to be better than both.
This game is more than just about a handshake, it’s going to shape the way the cookie crumbles in the NFC this year.
