Landry Jones remained at Oklahoma so he could help lead the Sooners to a National Championship, but that’s now nothing more than a pipe dream as the Sooners saw their title hopes burn on Saturday when the Kansas State Wildcats rolled in and topped the Sooners 17-13. It was a scenario that perfectly personifies two birds with one stone as not only do the Wildcats get the satisfaction of beating the Sooners, but they are no doubt going to rise in the Top 25 after their victory.
Landry Jones had a very Tony Romo-like day, as he performed but it was nothing more than a mediocre one at that. The Sooners were playing from behind for a majority of the game, but even with that Jones couldn’t get the passing game going at all.

Both Sooner running backs combined for just over 80 yards on the ground and both were held nowhere near the goal line all day long. The lone Sooner touchdown came from Blake Bell who actually finished the day with negative yardage. The failure to get the running game going proved to not help Landry Jones at all, as the Sooner quickly became one-dimensional.
As for the Wildcats, John Hubert put together another massive day, rushing for over 120 yards and a score. It was Hubert’s late score that truly ended up being the difference and in combination with his insane yardage total, he was the x-factor for the Wildcats in their upset win.
The Sooners made it interesting late, as Landry Jones finally got a ball into the endzone with just over 4:00 left in the game, but a failed two-point conversion put the Sooners in a bind, but it appeared they were going to be bailed out when the Wildcats botched the first few plays of their ensuing drive but Collin Klein showed he was nothing but a cool customer, converting two huge third downs which clinched the win for Kansas State, their first win in Norman in over a decade.
As for the Sooners, the join the likes of USC, LSU, Florida State, Michigan and Arkansas as teams who have either fallen out of the Top 10 completely or have taken serious nose dives. This is nothing but good news for teams like Kansas State who are continuing to take advantage of topsy-turvy nature of the Top 10 as they continue to flex their title muscles.
The topsy-turvy mature of the Top 10 actually give the Sooners some hope, but it’s slim at that. As long as the Kansas State’s of the world continue to rise and knock off the competition, the Sooners will need title assistance they’ll likely not get unless something drastic happens.
But then again, this is college football and in the words of Kevin Garnett, anything is possible.
