UFC lightweight Jeremy Stephens was expected to face off against Yves Edwards at tonight’s UFC on FX 5 event at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. However, after Stephens was arrested earlier this morning, the bout is in jeopardy.
Stephens is being held at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility after being arrested by the Minneapolis Police Department at the Marriott City Center Hotel.
The hard-hitting 155-pounder has not been formally charged with any crimes. Stephens’ representatives did not return messages from MMAjunkie.com and UFC officials could not be reached for comment.
If Stephens vs. Edwards is removed from tonight’s fight card, it will be the second fight scrapped from the event within the past 24 hours.
An additional planned lightweight showdown between Dennis Hallman and Thiago Tavares was removed from the card after Hallman could not come close to making the 155-pound weight limit. Hallman has since been released by the UFC after failing to make weight in his second straight bout.
A welterweight bout between Mike Pierce and Aaron Simpson is expected to be bumped from the Facebook prelims to the FUEL TV preliminary bout broadcast if Stephens is ultimately pulled from the card.
