The North Carolina State Wolfpack have pulled off what seemed to be the impossible. N.C. State quarterback led the Wolfpack down the field after a blocked punt for the game-winning score to upset the No. 3 ranked Florida State Seminoles by a score of 17-16.
The last time North Carolina State hosted a top five team was in 1998. The team they hosted was oddly enough the Florida State Seminoles, who were the second-ranked team in the nation at that time. Tonight, North Carolina State once again pulled off the upset against a top five ranked Florida State squad.
Glennon hit wide receiver Bryan Underwood for the two-yard touchdown pass with just 16 seconds remaining to take the lead.
N.C. State completely outplayed the Seminoles in the second-half. The Wolfpack were down 16-0 at halftime but regrouped to find some room underneath the Florida State zone coverage to dink and dunk their way down the field. When the time really mattered, N.C. State found some openings down the seam to convert big third and fourth downs.
It is a huge win for the Wolfpack who suffered a heart-breaking loss last week to the Miami Hurricanes.
Glennon tossed the ball 55 times for N.C. State and completed 30 of the passes. He racked up 259 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. Glennon showed poise in the second half and an impressive control of the team’s no-huddle offense. When the pace picked up, Glennon came through for the Wolfpack.
As for the vaunted Florida State pass rush, they came up short in their effort against a patch work N.C. State offensive line that was missing three starters.
With the win, North Carolina State shakes up the national title picture and the Wolfpack make a big statement in the ACC.
North Carolina State has off next week and will look to continue their winning ways when they return to action against Maryland on October 20th. For Florida State, they will look to regroup as they host Boston College next week.
