Drew Brees Named NFC Offensive Player of the Week

Not only did the New Orleans Saints earn their first win of the 2012-13 NFL season on Sunday night against the San Diego Chargers, but quarterback Drew Brees passed a mark for consecutive games with a passing touchdown by legendary quarterback Johnny Unitas during the win. Today, Brees’ run of good luck has only gotten better.

Brees has been named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week for his week five performance against the Chargers.

Brees threw for an impressive 370 yards on  29-of-45 passing. He found the endzone four times — including three touchdown tosses to wide receiver Marques Colston.

The New Orleans offense and Brees finally seem to be clicking and are beginning to find their rhythm without head coach and play caller Sean Payton, which could be a dangerous sign for their upcoming opponents and the rest of the league.

New Orleans will take their winning momentum into the bye week and will hope to continue on the right path when they travel to Raymond James Stadium in week seven to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a NFC South showdown.

As for Brees, look for him in the upcoming Pepsi commercial with British pop boy band One Direction. I’m not entirely sure One Direction appeals to the audience the NFL generally receives, but I guess Brees and the league can always benefit from expanding their reach and dipping into new demographics.

Here is your visual evidence of Brees teaming up with the boy band during their Pepsi shoot — the tweens are going to love this one:
