Forrest Griffin: Stephan Bonnar Is Going To Surprise People

UFC light-heavyweight Stephan Bonnar is entering the biggest fight of his life this weekend when he faces off against the middleweight champion and greatest mixed martial artist of all-time Anderson Silva at UFC 153. Bonnar is a huge underdog and many believe he doesn’t stand a chance against Silva but there is one man speaking out in support of “The American Psycho.”

Fellow light-heavyweight and The Ultimate Fighter season 1 finalist Forrest Griffin believes that Bonnar has the ability to shock the world on Saturday. While he doesn’t say whether or not he believes Bonnar will win, he clearly believes that Bonnar will put up a tough fight.

“I actually think Stephan’s going to surprise some people. I don’t know if he’ll win, but he’ll do well,” Griffin said. “He’s a big guy, he’s never been, I’ve never seen him be hurt by a punch, let alone knocked out.

“I don’t think Anderson’s going to want to get too close because Stephan’s a big guy with good jiu jitsu, you don’t want to be under him, you know.  He’s been working his wrestling a lot the last couple years, you’ve seen that in his fights. He’s kind of evolved as a fighter so, I think it’ll be a better fight than people think.”

Bonnar and Griffin were involved in one of the biggest fights in UFC history when the two went back and forth in the TUF 1 season finale live on Spike TV. That fight is a big reason for the boom in popularity that mixed martial arts has witnessed.

Throughout his career, Bonnar has never been able to top that one moment but if he is able to take down Silva, it will be the perfect cap to his career and the biggest upset in MMA history.

Let’s hope that Griffin is right and we are in store for one heck of a fight.
