The Texas Longhorns are having a rough start to the Red River Rivalry. The Oklahoma Sooners jumped out to an early lead and currently lead the Longhorns 20-2 with just over twelve minutes remaining in the first half. While the start of the game did not go exactly as planned there was one bright spot for the Longhorns in the first-quarter.
After the Sooners drove down the field on a fourteen play drive and punched the ball in the endzone with an eight-yard touchdown run from back up quarterback Blake Bell, the Longhorns special teams unit made a big play to get Texas on the board.
Junior defensive tackle Chris Whaley blew up the middle of the Sooners line and took advantage of a poor snap by Oklahoma.
Oklahoma kicker Michael Hunnicutt tried to make up for the bad snap and awkwardly kicked the ball directly into Whaley. With the ball bouncing around, sophomore cornerback Quandre Diggs scooped up the loose ball and split the defenders before returning the ball all the way to the endzone for the two points.
Other than the Longhorns special teams play, Texas has been able to get nothing going with the ball in their possession. Longhorns fans need to hope the team can find more of this magic or the game will be out of hand quickly.
