The South Carolina Gamecocks have a big SEC clash ahead of them this weekend against the Florida Gators but the status of South Carolina’s star running back is in question. Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier said today that Marcus Lattimore is questionable for Saturday’s game and may not play when South Carolina travels to The Swamp.
Redshirt senior running back Kenny Miles is expected to get the start this Saturday.
While the exact status of Lattimore is uncertain, running backs coach Everette Sands believes that the All-SEC rusher should still be able to contribute as a backup. If Lattimore cannot go against the Gators, freshman Mike Davis would likely see an extended role in the offense.
If Lattimore does not play against Florida, it is a devastating blow to the Gamecocks offense and rushing attack.
Without one of the best backs in the nation, the South Carolina team will find themselves in serious danger of falling victims to defeat in The Swamp. Lattimore is key to the team’s SEC division title and national championship hopes. Without him in the line-up, those chances take a major hit.
Lattimore’s status will be a key storyline to watch over the next two days in anticipation of the Florida – South Carolina showdown on Saturday.
