Phil Davis to face Forrest Griffin at UFC 155

Just one week after his dominating UFC 153 win over one of Brazil’s top prospects Wagner Prado, Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis already has his next fight lined up. Davis will be stepping up to fight The Ultimate Fighter season one winner and former light-heavyweight champion Forrest Griffin at UFC 155, which will be held at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

A re-match for the heavyweight title between Junior Dos Santos and Cain Velasquez is set to headline the event. Dos Santos won the belt from Velasquez in just 1 minute and 4 seconds on November 12th of last year in the organization’s debut on FOX.

Griffin was originally expected to welcome Chael Sonnen back to the 205-pound division at the organization’s year end show in a rematch of their 2003 fight at IFC — Global Domination.

However, the UFC officials had other plans and pulled Sonnen from the bout in order to take part in a head coaching stint on season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter opposite current UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones. Jones and Sonnen will then fight for the UFC’s light-heavyweight crown following the season on April 27th.

New Jersey is being discussed as the potential host of the event.
