NBA.com conducted their 11th annual survey where they ask all NBA general managers a series of 57 questions about the league’s best teams, players, coaches, fans, and offseason moves. In the survey, it is not possible to have a unanimous vote because the GM’s are not permitted to vote for their own team.
This season, despite a series of impressive and major moves by the Los Angeles Lakers, the NBA general managers believe the Miami Heat are still the favorites to win the NBA championship.
On top of back-to-back titles for the Heat, the NBA GM’s have LeBron James as the favorite to win the NBA MVP.
Here are the totals from the votes:
Which team will win the 2013 NBA Finals?
1. Miami — 70.0%
2. L.A. Lakers — 23.3%
3. Oklahoma City — 6.7%
Who will win the 2012-13 MVP?
1. LeBron James, Miami — 66.7%
2. Kevin Durant, Oklahoma City — 30.0%
3. Carmelo Anthony, New York — 3.3%
Of course, with the NBA general managers picking the Heat to win it all, you know that they are the pick to win the Eastern Conference. What about the West?
It comes as no surprise that the GM’s have the Los Angeles Lakers as the favorite to win the Western Conference and meet the Heat in the finals. The Lakers got just over 60% of the vote with the Oklahoma City getting 36.7% of the vote. For a comparison, The Heat got 96.7% of the vote in the East.
What does this all mean? Not a whole lot but it does go to show that an overwhelming amount of NBA GM’s still fear the Heat as the best squad in the NBA and view LeBron James as the best player in the league.
