South Carolina Gamecocks running back Marcus Lattimore suffered a horrifying leg injury in today’s game against the Tennessee Volunteers. Lattimore was just one year removed from a torn ACL in his left knee against Mississippi State and now Lattimore is going to miss significant time after destroying his leg.
It was as awful as an injury as we have seen in recent memory.
Tennessee defensive back Eric Gordon tackle hit Lattimore low and his leg crumbled and twisted in ways that are just too awful to describe.
“It looked severe on the field,” South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier said during a halftime interview with ESPN. “Hopefully it’s not as severe as we thought.”
Lattimore was considered one of the top running back prospects for the upcoming NFL Draft among the draft eligible backs. Luckily for Lattimore, he is a junior and still has the ability to play one more season in the college ranks before making the jump to the pros. The gruesome injury is a setback but Lattimore has shown he can come back from adversity before.
Hopefully Lattimore can make a speedy and full recovery but there is no denying that he has a lot of work to do before finding his way back on the football.
For those of you who did not see the injury happen, here is video of the play.
WARNING: the video is very graphic and should not be watched by those that have weak stomachs. It truly is one of the most gruesome injuries I have seen.
