The Philadelphia Eagles have had a rough start to their season and it has turned head coach Andy Reid into a desperate man as he fights to save his job. First, defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was used as the team’s scapegoat and relieved of his duties by the team. Now, the Eagles need to point the finger at someone else.
Philadelphia’s new scapegoat is none other than quarterback Michael Vick, who has been plagued with turnovers to start the season.
Michael Fabiano of the NFL Network tweeted early this afternoon that the Eagles plan to bench Vick this week and roll with rookie signal-caller Nick Foles against the New Orleans Saints in week 9.
However, there do appear to be some conflicting reports. Ian Rapoport, also of the NFL Network, tweeted:
But even Rapoport’s sources are contradicting each other:
An official decision will be made later in the week and it will be no surprise if it’s Foles leading the charge next Sunday.
It’s nice to point the finger at someone else but Reid will eventually have to take some accountability for his failure to get the Eagles to play at a level their roster talent would suggest they should achieve. Reid is trying to do everything he can but he is running out of excuses.
Watch out, Andy. You’re the next to go.
