One of the Houston Rockets biggest acquisitions of the offseason, the international sensation Jeremy Lin, was just trying to be a good teammate and veteran leader when he learned that the team had traded away Jeremy Lamb to the Oklahoma City Thunder in exchange for James Harden.

Lin reached out to who he thought was Lamb and wanted to wish him well moving forward in his career. Unfortunately, Lin contacted the wrong rookie teammate and almost gave Scott Machado a heart attack.

The news comes via a report from the Houston Chronicle:

Jeremy Lin thought he was doing the right, veteran thing. He called Scott Machado to say goodbye and good luck. The only problem was that he called the wrong rookie.

“I was like, ‘Hey, it’s Scott, it’s not Jeremy,’ ” Machado said of his conversation with Lin. “’Did you hear something about me?’ I was all nervous. He was like, “Oh, I apologize, I apologize.’ It all worked out.”

It is an honest mistake that the two can likely look back at moving forward and have a laugh over. At the time, however, Machado was not laughing and was still wondering whether or not he would make the Rockets roster.

The good news for Machado was in the end he wound up making the cut and will enter the season as a member of the Houston Rockets.
