Week ten of the college football season is set for a full slate of action on Saturday and, as always, the Southeastern Conference features some of the top talent around the nation. As the NFL season is at the midway point and college football is winding down, we have to take a look at some of the potential top picks in the 2013 NFL Draft.
There is no better place than the SEC to find NFL talent and here are some of the top players and matchups to watch:
Alabama Offensive Line vs. LSU defensive line
You always hear it said that games are won and lost in the trenches and this week will be no different during the epic clash between Alabama and LSU.
Alabama boasts an offensive line loaded with NFL talent. Three players — Chance Warmack, Barrett Jones and DJ Fluker — could all be selected in the first two rounds. They will have their hands full against the LSU defensive end duo of Sam Montgomery and Barkevious Mingo. Montgomery and Mingo for college football’s best duo on the outside. Both players could be top fifteen picks this April.
Michael Williams vs. Eric Reid
Michael Williams is a strong, physical tight end prospect that is quickly rising up the draft boards. If he can find his way against LSU safety Eric Reid, who many believe to be the best safety in this year’s draft class, then he will make a name for himself and rocket up the draft boards.
LSU tackles vs. Alabama DEs
While Quinton Dial and Ed Stinson are not on the level of Montgomery and Mingo, they are still potentially devastating defensive ends that can influence a game. If Josh Dworaczyk and company can’t hold their blocks, the LSU offense — especially QB Zach Mettenberger – is going to be in for a long day.
CJ Mosley vs. LSU offense
CJ Mosley is one of the most talented players in the nation and it will be interesting to see how he flies around the ball when LSU is in possession. Mosley’s quickness and range are unbelievable and his rapid improvement this season has cause NFL scouts to fall in love with his talent. Mosley is expected to be selected very high in the draft and he can solidify his status with another dominating performance on the national stage.
Nick Saban vs. Les Miles
The NFL Bountygate scandal has taught us just how important coaching is — just look at the step the New Orleans Saints have taken back without their head coach.
Tonight Saban and Miles are going to need to work hard to outsmart each other and give their most talented players the best opportunity to succeed. The coach who puts together the most impressive gameplan will come away with the victory, bragging rights and an inside track to competing in the national title game.
