There is some potentially huge and history making news making circles in the world of mixed martial arts.
Rumors are swirling that Strikeforce women’s bantamweight Ronda Rousey has signed a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship making her the first woman in history to sign a contract with the top mixed martial arts organization. Rousey has been linked to the UFC for quite some time but it appears that president Dana White has finally brought the former USA Olympian on board.
Rousey — a former U.S. Olympian — has officially joined Dana White’s MMA organization … and automatically becomes the 135 lb women’s champion.
We’re told 25-year-old Ronda will defend her title in 2013 — possible opponents include Sara McMann, Cris Cyborg and rival Miesha Tate.
Rousey has been fighting in Strikeforce since last year and emerged as a superstar … beating the living crap out of just about everybody she’s faced. In fact, she’s undefeated
The celebrity gossip news site is also reporting that the Strikeforce organization, who has a big show planned for January of 2013, will fold the organization following the event. A Strikeforce rep was contacted but did not comment on the rumors.
Rousey is one of the most charismatic stars in the entire sport regardless of gender. When she is placed on a UFC card, Rousey will automatically be a huge draw especially if she is matched against the dominant Cris Cyborg.
