The term delusions of grander is one that is seemingly lost on New York Jet cornerback Antonio Cromartie. The NFL has notoriously been a no-quit league, but it also tries to be a no nonsense league, and Cromartie is just full of it. When speaking about the talent of the New York Jets and their direction this year, Cromartie remarked he not only thinks the Jets are going to rebound, but they’re making the playoffs.
“The Jets (3-5) will make the playoffs this year,” Cromartie said. “We believe in each other, we believe in what Coach Ryan and his staff is putting us to schemes and stuff, so we definitely are going to make the playoffs this year.”
I believe the phrase I’m looking for is isn’t that cute? Cue the Jim Mora Sr. clip: Playoffs? PLAYOFFS?!
The Jets, first off, are 3-6 and not only have they been losing but they’ve been losing badly. From a trashing at home at the hands of the Miami Dolphins, to yet another trashing at home by the 49ers, the Jets can’t seem to stay competitive in games.
Oh, and then there’s the Tim Tebow effect. Not only can Mark Sanchez not complete a pass to save his life, but Tim Tebow is tearing the fan base apart and is causing a major distraction in the Big Apple.
Cromartie may be onto something when he suggests the Jets will turn things around, as their schedule from here on out is relatively easy with just the Seahawks owning a winning record. It’s nice that Cromartie still believes in his team with such a terrible record and an even worse outlook. But there comes a time when you just sound crazy and Cromartie believing the Jets are a playoff team is so far beyond crazy it’s comical.
