Devin Ebanks picked the right night to get arrested. Hours after Ebanks was arrested and booked on suspicion of DUI the Lakers fired head coach Mike Brown, burying Ebanks arrest in the news cycle. But now that the Brown firing is behind us, Ebanks and his DUI can float right back to the top of the relevance cup.
Early Friday morning, Ebanks was pulled over and later booked after officers suspected Ebanks was driving under the influence. Ebanks sort of tipped officers off when he tweeted he was going to a birthday party for a girl he knows, even encouraging his followers to wish her a happy birthday. Ebanks was booked at 3:44am in L.A.
This is the second time in a year that Ebanks has had a run-in with law enforcement. Last September Ebanks was charged with sexually assaulting a woman, but the charges were luckily dropped and Ebanks avoided jail time and punishment from the NBA.
Ebanks was drafted by the Lakers back in 2010 and signed an extension in L.A. as recently as August, a deal that keeps in with the Lakers for one year. But after his latest incident, it’s unclear how long Ebanks will be with the team. He was released Friday morning on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 7th.
