The Atlanta Falcons jumped out to an early lead against the New Orleans Saints, but things have come crashing down and that undefeated record is looking to be in serous danger. A lot of that has to do with the fact that the Falcons blew a 10-0 lead and now trail the Saints 14-10, but it also has a lot to do with the fact that Julio Jones may not be able to help the Falcons come back.
Jones has left the game with what appears to be a leg injury and his return is questionable.
While Roddy White already is at the 100 yard mark before halftime, Jones registered just two catches for under 15 yards before hurting his leg late in the first quarter. Without Jones, the Falcons lose one of their deep threats and one of their weapons in opening up the running game. As bad as the Saints secondary has been, not having Jones on the field could give them a confidence booster in terms of a safety net when it comes to stopping Matt Ryan.
It’s not like the Falcons don’t have a plethora of weapons for Matty Ice to throw to, as White is on fire and Tony Gonzalez is more than a reliable target. But without Jones the Falcons are lacking a certain boost and a down field threat. It may not be a fatal loss, if he doesn’t return, but it’s not going to make Matt Ryan’s job any easier.
