There are some rumors swirling late last night and early this morning that the Tennessee Volunteers have fired head coach Derek Dooley and that they plan on announcing the move after the game against Vanderbilt or Kentucky. The rumors began making the rounds on VolQuest.

It is now widely believed that it is not a matter of “if” but “when” the announcement will be made that Dooley is no longer the team’s head coach.

The Volunteers are 4-6 on the season and are winless in their six SEC contests.

At the end of the season, the Volunteers head coaching job will be one of many head coaching vacancies in the Southeastern Conference. Tennessee, Arkansas and Kentucky are all but certain and it’s possible that Gene Chizik could be on his way out in Auburn.

Let the coaching carousel begin.
