The New England Patriots are facing the very real possibility of playing the Indianapolis Colts without both Rob Gronkowski and Aaron Hernandez. Gronkowski has been limited in practice this week, but he’s not yet been ruled out entirely. Hernandez, on the other hand, is expected to miss another game, per NFL Network’s Albert Breer.
Hernandez missing Sunday’s showdown with the Colts is just another setback in what has been an otherwise forgettable and frustrating year for the tight end. After injuring his ankle in a Week 2 loss to the Cardinals and has played sparingly since then. Hernandez missed the following three games before returning to action against the Seahawks.
But following that promising glimpse that he’d return to the lineup on a weekly basis, Hernandez went on to play the following week, but missed the Patriots next two games including not even making the trip with the team to London.
Missing this Sunday’s game means Hernandez will have yet again this season missed three consecutive games.
Hernandez has been practicing, and he’s looked alright when he does which begs the question as to why he’s always sitting. The Patriots are notoriously tight lipped about their injuries, which means that we likely won’t know any time soon just how injured Hernandez really is.
