Temple Owls running back Montel Harris showed no signs of a running back who was injured. Harris was nursing a sprained ankle that was suffered in last week’s game against Cincinnati, but got the call against Army and it paid huge dividends for the Owls on Saturday.
Harris rushed for an unbelievable 351 yards and seven touchdowns on 36 carries against Army. Both the rushing yards and touchdown totals are Big East and school records. It is also the most yards ever rushed for against Army. The previous record was 268 yards and was held by Tony Dorsett.
Behind Harris’ efforts, Temple defeated the Army by a score of 63-32.
Harris is a senior who transferred from Boston College after some injuries and not seeing eye-to-eye with the coaching staff. Boston College’s loss was Temple’s gain and it showed this afternoon.
As a team, Temple’s nine rushing touchdowns set a new Big East record and they fell a mere two yards short of the Big East single-game team rushing record.
