The Western Michigan Broncos 2012 football season came to an end with a loss to Eastern Michigan. on Saturday and the team wasted no time parting ways with their head coach. Western Michigan released a statement announcing they have fired head coach Bill Cubit, who had one year remaining on his contract with the university.
“I want to thank Coach Cubit for his years of service and recognize the work he and all of his assistants have done over the years in support of our student-athletes,” Western Michigan athletic director Kathy Beauregard said in the statement. “I also want to thank Nancy and the entire Cubit family for what they have meant to this community.”
“Although this is a time of transition, the expectations of our department remain the same. Our vision and mission is winning division and conference titles and growing our number of postseason bowls. We continue to value student-athlete success academically and expect them to be great citizens in this community.”
Cubit led the Broncos to a 51-47 and three bowl games during his time with the team. Cubit ranks fifth on the Western Michigan win list and led the Broncos to the second most WAC victories in school history.
Western Michigan will immediately begin their head coaching search to fill Cubit’s vacancy.
