The Cardinals are beating the Falcons, but John Skelton is out as Arizona’s quarterback. Skelton has been replaced by sixth-round draft pick Ryan Lindley which means the Cardinals, once 4-0, are now on their third different quarterback this season.
Skelton’s benching was purely about his performance, as he didn’t appear to be injured when he was asked to take a seat. Skelton didn’t get much time to blow his starting gig, as he only threw seven passes, completing just two of them. He also didn’t have any interceptions, but the Cardinals have been hinting that Lindley could get some work at quarterback and it apparently didn’t take much at all to warrant the switch.
Kevin Kolb is inactive today and is expected to take over the starting role when he returns from injury, but the Cardinals aren’t expecting him back for a few weeks at this point. So really this is all about who will try to stop the bleeding until Kolb returns.
And Kolb’s return doesn’t guarantee anything in terms of win, it’s just something different for Arizona.
What’s even more ironic is that Matt Ryan has tossed three interceptions for the Falcons, but it’s Skelton who got benched. There’s no way the Falcons were going to bench Ryan, but his performance contrasted against Skelton’s and the result of Skelton’s performance is just laughable. No matter who they decide on at quarterback one this is certain; things are messy in Arizona.
