Darren Sproles is not a big man but he’s a very strong man. Check that, he’s an extremely strong man and 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith learned that the hard way when he tried to stop the Saints all purpose man on a run.
The Saints may have lost the game, but Darren Sproles showed just what kind of fight this team has. Early in the game, Sproles flipped 49ers linebacker Aldon Smith as Smith tried to tackle Sproles. It wasn’t that just that Sproles flipped smith, it’s that Sproles,a 5-foot-six, 190 pound running back, flipped Smith, a 6-foot-4 258 pound linebacker.
And Sproles didn’t even seem like it was a big deal.
It also signified to Saints fans that Sproles is back and ready to be a factor after missing the last few games with a broken hand. Sproles finished the game with 65 yards through the air, but was used exclusively as a receiver being targeted nine times.
Smith ended up getting the last laugh however, as the 49ers decisively defeated the Saints once again in a rematch of last season’s NFC Divisional round game. Smith may have gotten flipped by a man much shorter and less weighty as him, but his team is 8-2-1 and is the second best team in the conference. Sproles just gave us the GIF of the week, but we’ll take it.
