New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez was involved in one of the most unintentionally hilarious plays in NFL history when he ran into his lineman’s butt on Thanksgiving and fumbled the ball which was returned for a touchdown.

For the first time since that fateful evening, Sanchez has broken his silence and spoke to the media about the “butt fumble.”

“It’s embarrassing,” Sanchez said in his first discussion with the media about the fumble. “You screw up the play and I’m trying to do the right thing. It’s not like I’m trying to force something. I start to slide and I slide in the worst spot I possibly could — right into (right guard) Brandon Moore.

“I guess (I was) more stunned than anything. It was just like & a car accident. I was like, ‘Whoa, what just happened? The ball is gone.’ It was weird, man. That sucked.”

In case you missed it, here is a GIF of the fumble:

The Thanksgiving turnover became an instant viral hit and was the focus of New York media headlines for the next few days. It’s good to see Sanchez taking this play with a grain of salt. At least he is taking the image of horrifying things better than Fireman Ed.
