One of the most incredible aspects of collegiate sports is the unity and family atmosphere between the fans, players and members of the university.
That atmosphere was on display in Pittsburgh when the student section, known as The Oakland Zoo, rallied to show their support Panthers guard Cameron Wright.
Wright’s father passed away on the morning of Pitt’s season opener, but Wright went on to play because he believed that is what his father would have wanted him to do. Wright’s father had moved to Pittsburgh to be able to watch his son play college ball.
When the Pitt fans heard of Wright’s loss, they came together to create a card for Wright to honor his father. “We ♥ You, Cam,” the card read. “Your Pitt family is here for you.”
The card was signed by members of the team and fans of the Panthers.
“It almost brought tears to my eyes, honestly, because I was so thankful for it,” Wright told Jeff Eisenberg of The Dagger. “It just showed I have the support of all my teammates and my fellow students. It means a lot to me.”
Here is a photo of the sign the Pitt fans put together for Wright:
It was a real class act from The Oakland Zoo. Hats off to all of the students that were involved.
