The Steelers quarterback situation isn’t one that is drawing a lot of envy from other teams around the NFL, and it’s not going to fix itself for at least another week. After dropping a game to the Cleveland Browns, the Steelers will have to trot out Charlie Batch or Brian Hoyer against the 9-2 Baltimore Ravens.
Roethlisberger was reportedly given a 35 percent chance earlier this week to start, and that’s now been downgraded to absolute zero. Byron Leftwich was also ruled out with a similar injury to Big Ben, which means the job is up to Batch and Hoyer, a matchup that the stout Ravens defense has to be salivating over.
There was some hope that the Steelers would have Big Ben back, as he said that the decision would come down to the strength in his throwing arm. Roethlisberger was even able to practice earlier this week which made it look like Pittsburgh would get him back this week, but the Steelers will have to look another way for another week.
However, it’s not all bad news for Pittsburgh. Safety Troy Polamalu is expected to return this week, and it has been said that he’ll get a “significant role” in the defense. The Steelers can also expect Antonio Brown to be an option on Sunday for whoever ends up throwing him the ball, but if the Steelers struggled against the Browns, one has to feel a bit bad for what awaits Pittsburgh this week.
