Tomorrow’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers at Arrowhead Stadium will be played with a heavy heart just over 24 hours after the tragic murder-suicide involving linebacker Jovan Belcher which came to an end in the parking lot of the Chiefs facility.
All signs pointed to the game going on as planned and now any doubt can be put to rest.
The Chiefs released a statement saying the game will be played as scheduled:
“After discussions between the league office, Head Coach Romeo Crennel and Chiefs team captains, the Chiefs advised the NFL that it will play tomorrow’s game vs. the Carolina Panthers at its originally scheduled time.”
Kickoff for the Panthers vs. Chiefs game will be 1:00 p.m. ET.
The only voice that mattered when it came down to whether or not the Chiefs should play on Sunday was the team’s. If they came together and discussed their options before deciding to play the game, then no one should be upset with the decision.
In times of grieving, sometimes the best way to get your mind off of things is to continue with routine. For the Chiefs players, that means going out and doing the one thing you love — playing football.
