The Big Ten title game is featuring a newbie to the conference and the Nebraska Cornhuskers wasted no time in making the mark in the big game. Agter going down 14-0 early to Wisconsin, the Huskers got a big play out of speedy quarterback Taylor Martinez — and announcer Gus Johnson lost his marbles because of it.
We all know Johnson from the bad Madden games but more from his energetic calls of March Madness games and the occasional NFL game on CBS. Since coming to FOX, the big wigs have made him their Joe Buck of college football and we can see why they like him, as he busted out the old Gus is REALLY, REALLY excited voice on the Martinez run.
Usually when Johnson makes a call like this it enhances the experience and the Martinez run was no exception. On top of it all, the run got the Huskers back into the game and also gave us one of the highlights of the night on one that has been filled with thrilling finishes and highlight reel spectacles. The Huskers may be new to the Big Ten, but it’s not taking them long to let the conference and it’s traditional titans that the game has changed and Nebraska isn’t a push over addition.
