It only took a million years, but the New York Jets have finally benched struggling quarterback Mark Sanchez in favor of a backup. Now don’t get your Tebow jersey’s out just yet, as the Jets original savior was made inactive today with a rib injury. That means the interim savior Greg McElroy will get his shot to show that just about anyone with half a brain and four or more fingers can throw better than Sanchez.
The Jets day in every way warranted a quarterback change, not that their season up to this point didn’t.
On the day Mark Sanchez has just 97 yards passing with no touchdowns and three interceptions. The game is one of the most boring affairs of the weekend, and is now only notable because Rex Ryan has either come to his senses or has been so unbelievably pressured into taking Sanchez out of the game that it’s actually happened.
There is no eveidence that McElroy is going to be a better option that Sanchez, but at the same time everything in the world suggests that he at least presents New York with a better chance to win.
But with the benching of Sanchez, and even though Tebow is inactive, the slew of will Tebow start questions will flood in as soon as the game is over. Actually we don’t’ even have to wait that long, but either way Jets fans have finally gotten what they’ve wanted for some time — an offesne that features Mark Sanchez on the bench.
