The Kansas State Wildcats put together what many consider to be one of the greatest football season in the school’s history and quarterback Collin Klein is a major part of their success. Today, Klein was named a Heisman Trophy finalist as he hopes to become the first Wildcat to win the award.
In addition to being invited to New York, Klein was named the 2012 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award winner. Klein will receive his award on Friday during a ceremony at The Royal Sonesta Harbor Court Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.
“It’s a tremendous honor,” said Klein. “Anyone that is familiar with the game of football recognizes that name. I’m just happy to represent Kansas State, our team and what we’ve been able to accomplish this season.”
The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award’s foundation announced Klein as the recipient on Monday.
“Collin is not just a tremendous athlete and leader on the field, but an MVP off the field as well, who repeatedly has been recognized for his numerous contributions to the community and to the spirit of sportsmanship” John C. Unitas, Jr., President of The Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Educational Foundation, said. “Collin joins a prestigious list of top quarterbacks who embody the characteristics that made Johnny Unitas such an enduring legend, including many who have gone on to illustrious careers in the NFL.”
For his college finale, Klein will lead the Wildcats against the fourth-ranked Oregon Ducks for all of the Tostitos at the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on January 3rd.
