It’s been a rough day for the Chiefs so far, and it just got a lot worse. Not that Kansas City had many weapons to begin, but the offense is pretty much going to flow through Jamaal Charles as wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has left the game and the team fears his injury might be season ending.
Bowe left the game and after being evaluated, Chiefs doctors are concerned that the wide out may have as many as two broken ribs.
On the play in question, Bowe took a knee to the back while blocking on a running play for Jamaal Charles in the first quarter. Charles had a monster first quarter, rushing for over 100 yards but it obviously was a costly ground assault as Bowe left the game after the play and didn’t return.
Should Bowe be lost for the game, the Chiefs are pretty much done. They’re down more than two scores to the Browns and the run game becomes irrelevant at that point in a blowout. But the concern isn’t about Bowe today, it’s how this will effect his season. The Chiefs are in a race for the first pick in tho year’s NFL Draft, and putting Bowe on the field is not only putting that in jeopardy, but it’s more importantly putting his health in jeopardy as well.
With three games left in the season after today, there is no reason Bowe should step back on the field this season if he has broken ribs.
