Arkansas Razorbacks new head coach Brett Bielma is wasting no time building his staff in Fayetteville. The former Wisconsin Badgers head coach Bielma announced today in a statement that he has brought the Badgers co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash with him to Arkansas to become the team’s new defensive coordinator.
“I am excited to welcome Chris to our staff,” said Bielema in a statement. “In the last three years working together, I gained a great respect for the way Chris teaches the game and develops student-athletes.
“I’ve followed his career for a long time, and his knowledge of the way we run our program and specifically the defense will be valuable for us moving forward in our transition. Chris helped us improve drastically in our pass defense at Wisconsin where his defenses consistently ranked in the top 25 nationally in all the major categories.”
Ash joined Bielma in Wisconsin back in 2010, when he was named the school’s defensive backs coach. After just one season, Ash joined the promotion that led to him being named the Badgers co-defensive coordinator.
It is an exciting hire for the Razorbacks as they look to leave the embarrassing outcome of last season in the rear-view mirror.
Bielma and Ash have experience winning — they have earned bids to the past two Rose Bowl’s together — and the Arkansas faithful will hope for the same kind of success in Arkansas.
