Warren Sapp Miraculously Finds "Lost" Super Bowl Ring for Sunday's Reunion

Warren Sapp apparently found his “lost” Super Bowl ring just in time for last Sunday’s reunion of the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers team that went all the way in Jon Gruden’s first season as their head coach.

Oh how convenient.

The folks over at the popular Buccaneers fan blog noticed that there was something awful shiny on Sapp’s finger which raised the question: did Sapp really lose his ring, or did he “misplace” it until the event he knew was coming?

“Is it so unbelievable that I misplaced my ring?” Sapp said in April.  “I wore it for 365 days, and we had a 7-9 season [in Tampa Bay in 2003] and I went to Oakland and I took it off.  You never saw me with it anywhere.  The only time I brought it out was when the NFL Network wanted us to wear it.”

Sapp very well could have lost the ring, and could have been wearing a replica or one of a teammate that couldn’t participate in the event. But the chances are that Sapp didn’t lose the ring and suddenly became aware of the fact he didn’t have it out very often (at least in front of a camera) and used that as his excuse for “losing” the ring.

All in all, no one’s really going to care about this for long. But it is an interesting footnote to a story that had some people scratching their heads a few months ago when Sapp reported the item missing — turns out the thing was in the couch with the remote the whole time. Isn’t that just the darndest thing?
