While fans in Chicago are still awaiting “The Return” of Derrick Rose, Timberwolves fans are getting theirs as an early Christmas present. Nine months after tearing his ACL and LCL, Minnesota Timberwolves point guard Ricky Rubio has been cleared to return to the lineup and is set to make his return Saturday against the Dallas Mavericks inside the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.
Rubio-mania finally hit Minnesota last season when the highly touted draft pick from Spain came to the Wolves after two years of two-stepping. There was a lot of nervousness and uncertainty as to whether or not the Spanish star, with his slick no-look passes, would ever come to Minnesota or if the Wolves would have to trade his rights to get the young man to come to America.
But after coming to Minnesota, Rubio fit right in with his teammates and with the fan base, and is a vicious one-two punch with star Kevin Love.
The Wolves have missed Rubio since his season was ended against the Lakers last March, and Minnesota fans were merely teased with what could be. Now, with Love healthy and a solid rotation of player intact, Rubio’s return isn’t just something that’s noteworthy.
The Timberwolves march to the playoffs begins tonight with Rubio’s return, and the Target Center is about to start filling up consistently for the first time in a decade.
