According to a few tweets from Ken Berger of CBS Sports, Amar’e Stoudemire has been cleared to practice, making him one step closer to returning from knee surgery. He will be flying down to Erie to practice with the Bayhawks, the New York Knicks D-League affiliate team.
Why? Head coach Mike Woodson doesn’t think he’ll have sufficient time to get it going in the next few practices and doesn’t want to stunt STAT’s arrival time. According to an earlier report from SLAM Online, Amar’e has set the Knicks Christmas game against the Los Angeles Lakers as a possible season debut. Carmelo Anthony on the other hand has missed the past few games with a sprained ankle. He doesn’t have a strict timetable for his return but chances are he’ll be ready to go by December 25th.
Steve Nash, Stoudemire’s former pick-and-roll buddy, is also looking towards Christmas as a possible return date. According to tweets from Los Angeles Lakes reporter Mike Trudell, Nash has been feeling positive about his progress, although he is still sore. Both Nash and Pau Gasol practiced today. Gasol is a game-time decision for tomorrows match-up against the Charlotte Bobcats.
