Tulane safety Devon Walker suffered a horrifying spine injury at the beginning of the season after colliding with a teammate while attempting a tackle. The injury cause Walker to suffer a collapsed lung and he needed to be revived on the field before taken to the local hospital.

Walker has been working hard in rehab and he remains in good spirits. Walker has yet to fully recover from the injury and he remains immobile, but he received some good news in time for the holidays.

The rehab facility is allowing Walker to take a break from his recovery in order to head home and be with his family during Christmas.

Walker released a statement through the university earlier this week:

“I am so happy to be going home where I can reunite with my family and friends,” Walker said. “My family and I are very grateful for the support we continue to receive. Some days, when I think that I just can’t do this anymore, remembering my many friends and supporters (both old and new) who are praying for me gives me the strength to go on. I know that my fight is just beginning. Please continue to pray for my recovery. Thank you very much.”

It is great to see Walker remain in positive spirits and we wish him the best as he continues his rehab.
