USC Trojans’ Matt Barkley Will Not Play In Sun Bowl; College Career Officially Over

It’s official. Matt Barkley’s playing days as quarterback of the USC Trojans have come to an end.

The senior signal-caller’s status for the Sun Bowl was in question after a shoulder injury that forced him to miss the team’s season finale. Now, there is no more questions as to whether or not Barkley will be available for the game.

USC head coach Lane Kiffin made it official today that Barkley has been ruled out for the bowl game. Barkley originally injured his shoulder on November 17th during the Trojans loss to UCLA.

In his absence, Max Wittek will get the start against Georgia Tech on December 31st.

Barkley will now turn his attention to getting healthy and preparing to work out for scouts and NFL personnel as he positions himself for the 2013 NFL Draft, where he will be a likely first-round selection despite a disappointing season.
