Usually when you take an off balance shot from beyond the arc as time is expiring, you don’t always make the most of it. But then again, none of us are as lucky as Darren Collison is, who hit what has to be the shot of the year up to this point in the NBA season on Thursday night. As time was expiring in a three point game against the Thunder, Collison hit a leaping three pointer with one hand — and drained it.
What makes this shot even more amazing is the fact that Collison didn’t even have time to think about it. In 2.2 seconds the ball gets to two different Maverick’s players before Collison gets the ball and by the time he gets it there is less than a half second left on the clock. On top of that, he was leaping, released with one hand and hot nothing but net.
The officials reviewed the play to make sure Collison was above the arc, which he was. They also could have been looking at it to simply be sure they actually saw what they saw. The play was busted, it was going nowhere and somehow Collison got the ball with less than a half second left and fired up a game tying three pointer.
Dallas ened up losing the game in overtime, but Collison’s just may be the shot of the year.
