For only the third time since 1986, the Detroit Red Wings will be naming a new captain. It is expected that the organization will soon announce forward Henrik Zetterberg the 36th captain in the team’s history. The move has been anticipated since Nicklas Lidstrom announced his retirement and it is only a matter of time until it becomes official, according to MLive’s Ansar Khan.
Zetterberg follows Lidstrom and Steve Yzerman wearing the “C” in Detroit. He has been an alternate captain since the 2006-07 season.
The ten-year veteran has played his entire career with the Red Wings and has many accomplishments including the Conn Smythe and Selke trophies.
