UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem will return to the octagon at UFC 156 on February 2nd against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva in Las Vegas. The winner of the bout will likely receive a shot at heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez over the summer.
The bout becomes official after Overeem re-applied for his fight license in Nevada. After appearing before the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Overeem was granted his license giving the fight against Bigfoot the green light.
Overeem was serving a suspension for a failed drug test that showed elevated levels of testosterone.
“I’m ready to get my life back on track,” said Overeem in front of the commission.
During his suspension, Overeem submitted five drug tests to the commission. All of the tests came back negative. He was also tested randomly by the commission on November 16 and December 21, 2012. Those tests also came back with negative results. That cleared the way for Overeem to receive his license.
Now that this is behind him, Overeem can turn his attention to his next opponent and prepare for a run at UFC gold.
