American figure skaters Caydee Denney and John Coughlin will not be able to defend their 2011 national title at the upcoming U.S. Figure Skating Championships because of an injury.

The pair has been forced out of the event because of a hip injury suffered by Coughlin.

Coughlin underwent surgery on his hip back on December 4th to repair a torn labrum. He is still recovering from the surgery and is not healthy enough to compete. That led to their decision to pull from nationals and give up the shot at defending their crown.

Nationals will begin on January 24th in Omaha, Nebraska.
