Ryan Lochte is Getting His Own Reality TV Show

Last August, Ryan Lochte was one of the hottest things on the planet. He had just lead the American’s to gold in the pool and he had usurped Michael Phelps as the golden child of the water. But while he was a hot commodity five months ago, the buzz around him has faded immensely.

But if there’s one television network that isn’t afraid to smear it’s corporate waste all over semi-famous celebrities, it’s the E! Network — home of your favorite family, the Kardashian’s. Pretty much, if you’ve been famous for fifteen minutes, whether it be from a sex tape or winning Olympic gold, E! will give you a reality show.

Ryan Lochte is the latest semi-famous celebrity to cash in on that policy. E! has announced that they will begin airing a show centered on the olympic swimmer called What Would Ryan Lochte Do?. A description lists that the show will follow Lochte’s escapades of  ”partying and training as he prepares for the 2016 Rio Olympics while building his fashion line, making media appearances, dealing with his close-knit and outspoken family and friends and looking for the right girl.”

While the general public has all but forgotten about Lochte, E! is abound to give him a stage among those who actually care about what celebrities do in their personal lives. But it speaks more to Lochte than it does about the network, as while E! is notorious for throwing garbage on TV, Lochte has gone from world class Olympian to E! reality star in a matter of 8 months.

It’s actually a genius move by both E! and Lochte. Lochte needs to avoid fading from the spotlight in the four years between the 2012 London Games and the 2016 Rio Games, and E! is creating an athlete reality star that isn’t already washed up. If this thing takes off with an audience, Lochte and E! will cash in huge at the 2016 Rio Games.

The only downside is most of us have to live with this aboriton of an show for four years, and no prize is worth that price.
